Creator of Baby Shark, Pinkfong to launch music variety show

The lovable children’s characters Pinkfong and Baby Shark will soon star in a music variety show for their legions of global fans.

The Pinkfong Company on Wednesday said it will launch “Pinkfong’s Magic Crayons,” which will have celebrities as guest stars starting with K-pop singer Younha.

As the latest original content by the global entertainment company, the program will have each episode combine music and dialogue with concepts and messages. The two animation characters, who comprise a benchmark in South Korea’s use of global intellectual property rights, will meet famous musicians, swap stories and perform on stage.

The characters’ influence on the global music market was shown through the viral YouTube hit “Baby Shark,” which stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for 20 consecutive weeks. The Pinkfong Company is also the first from South Korea to receive one diamond and 11 multi-platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America.

The goal now is to expand the company’s lineup that the family can enjoy together through collaborative content with domestic and foreign artists such as NewJeans, NCT DREAM, CL and Cardi B.

The show’s first guest will be K-pop singer-songwriter Younha. Last year, the title song “Event Horizon” from her sixth full-length repackaged album “End Theory: Final Edition” hit No. 1 on South Korea’s Digital Circle Chart.

On the inaugural episode, Pinkfong, Baby Shark and Younha will appear as friends and perform each other’s leading songs under the theme “Space.” The Pinkfong Company will promote astronomy in this edition using keywords such as the sun, moon, stars and Milky Way through its pop music sources “Colorful Stars” and “Outer Space Adventure.”
