Taihan Cable completes 1st optical cable plant in Kuwait

Taihan Cable & Solution Co. said on Tuesday it has completed the first fiber optic cable factory in Kuwait, in a joint project with Rank General Trading & Contracting to build a strong presence in the rapidly growing mobile communications infrastructure market in the region.

The factory is slated to start commercial operations from the middle of this month upon completion of product verification.

It will be operated by Taihan Kuwait, a joint venture between the South Korean company and the construction and trading firm in Kuwait. It is Kuwait’s first fiber optic cable manufacturing company.

It is located within the Mina Abdulla Industrial Area in the southeastern part of Kuwait City on a plot of land measuring 5,000 square meters. Its grand opening was held on Monday local time.

Taihan Cable is striving to capture the burgeoning optical cable market in the Middle East by localizing the necessary products. Until now, Kuwait has relied on imports for all its needs.

Kuwait is ramping up infrastructure investment, including in a 5G network featuring the Internet of Things and AI, under the New Kuwait Vision 2035 project to transform into a financial and trade hub.

Taihan Cable expects the new factory to serve as its production base in the Middle East. It is seeking to bolster its presence in the region, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, by leveraging its business network that has supplied cables throughout the Middle East for over 50 years.

The factory is installed with the same production lines and product testing equipment as those of its flagship plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province in Korea.

Taihan Cable also operates a high-voltage power grid production facility in Saudi Arabia, the only factory for the product in the country.
