South Korea's Taihan Cable & Solution Co. announced on Thursday that it has won a project for a 500-kilovolt (kV) UHV power grid project commissioned by Electric Power Systems Engineering Co. (EPS), a joint venture of the Egyptian government.
The 500 kV is the highest voltage among commercially available HVAC cables and is classified as Ultra High Voltage (UHV), one step above Extra High Voltage (EHV).
Taihan Cable was the first in South Korea to develop and commercialize such products and export them to the US, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Southeast Asia, and more.
The company demonstrated its management capabilities and competitive edge in UHV projects by completing the first 500-kV power grid construction project in North America in Chino Hills, California.
Leveraging its contracting capabilities, Taihan Cable explained that it successfully competed with local companies in Egypt and well-established global firms.
The company expects to secure a competitive advantage in future power infrastructure projects and renewable energy projects in Egypt following this contract.
