South Korea’s major power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. has bagged a 280 billion won ($209.6 million) contract to supply core equipment for a domestic power generation plant.
The company, formerly Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., said on Thursday it signed the deal with Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO), a wholly owned subsidiary of the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., to provide key components such as a gas turbine with a capacity of 380 megawatts (MW), a steam turbine and a heat recovery steam generator to a combined cycle power plant under construction.
The plant located in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, about 230 kilometers (143 miles) southeast of Seoul will be completed in December 2026 to generate 569 MW of electricity.
Doosan Enerbility has been closely cooperating with KOSPO on the country’s gas turbine industry, jointly developing hot section parts for gas turbines.
“We plan to expand the collaboration to long-term gas turbine maintenance service to enhance the domestic gas turbine industry’s capabilities in all fields and actively seek an entry into the global market,” said Doosan Enerbility Vice Chairman Jung Yeonin.
The company, which developed a large gas turbine for power generation in 2019, is working to introduce fully hydrogen-powered turbines with a capacity of 400 MW by 2027.
