South Korean fiber optic cable manufacturer Taihan Cable & Solution Co. on Thursday said it has been certified as a major power grid supplier by Public Service Electric & Gas Co. (PSE&G), the largest energy company in New Jersey.

Supplying electricity and gas to New Jersey for 120 years, PSE&G is also one of America’s largest electric power companies.

PSE&G CEO Ralph LaRossa, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Hoban Group Chairman Kim Seon-kyu were among those attending the certification ceremony in Seoul on Wednesday at Conrad Hotel.

This event coincided with a visit to Seoul by an East Asia economic mission led by Gov. Murphy from Choose NJ, the state government’s official investment promotion agency. The delegation toured both South Korea and Japan.

In June, Taihan signed a long-term deal of up to seven years with PSE&G to supply power cables to the state and is shipping new products to New Jersey. The ceremony in Seoul also recognized Taihan as a major supplier to the state’s power grid through the contract, while enabling the company to continuously take part in ventures there.

New Jersey is building a wide range of power infrastructure under its goal of transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2035. Taihan is seen to join this project to raise its presence on the U.S. market.

Since entering America in the early 2000s through the opening of a subsidiary and addition of an East Coast branch in New Jersey in 2017, Taihan seeks expansion on the North American market. Last year, its cumulative orders on the market exceeded $300 million in value, its best performance in the region.
