South Korea's home appliance giant LG Electronics Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Institute of Chemical Safety at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, to establish a cooperative system for training and education to improve chemical accident response capabilities.
The goal is to strengthen response capabilities for chemical accidents, raise awareness among employees, and promote a safety culture.
The institute will share training materials with LG Electronics, developed using a mobile virtual reality (VR) device created in Sept., to support chemical accident response training.
Starting next year, LG Electronics plans to use these materials in safety training at its safety experience centers within LG Science Park in Magok, Digital Park in Pyeongtaek and Smart Park in Changwon.
LG Electronics will enhance its existing safety and health education program for all employees by adding VR-based safety training content to provide hands-on training experiences.
Employees will use VR devices to conduct simulated drills for safety incidents that could occur in industrial settings, such as laboratory accidents, allowing them to learn practical response techniques.
Additionally, LG Electronics plans to gradually introduce safety training content from the National Institute of Chemical Safety covering rare but critical scenarios, such as toxic gas leaks and chemical-based terrorist incidents.
