Samsung Electronics Co. has become No. 1 smartphone brand in 38 countries in the first quarter of this year.
According to Counterpoint Research's Smartphone Shipment Report by Country released on Monday, Samsung Electronics secured the top position in the smartphone market in 38 out of 74 countries surveyed.
This is an increase of 10 countries compared to the fourth quarter of last year.
Samsung achieved over 40% market share in countries such as Brazil, Chile and Poland. It also claimed the top spot in major Asian countries like Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, where Apple usually holds the lead.
On the other hand, Samsung lost its leading position in countries like India, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands in Western Europe, where it was No. 1 in the first quarter of last year, to competitors such as Vivo.
Apple ranked first in 16 countries, a decrease from 24 countries in the fourth quarter of last year, while Xiaomi took the top spot in eight countries, down from 13 countries during the same period.
