LG Elec joins governing body of SOAFEE

LG Electronics Inc. announced on Thursday that it became the ninth member of the governing body of the Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE), a global consortium in software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology.

Since March last year, LG has been an active voting member in SOAFEE, contributing to the technical operations committee and working groups.

The company's unanimous election to the board reflects its significant contributions to the development of the SDV platform, particularly in discovering new applications for cloud-native technology in vehicle environments and conducting related technology verification.

LG Electronics' inclusion in the SOAFEE board is expected to boost its acquisition of SDV technology.

The company plans to lead SOAFEE's direction, expand global collaboration, and establish leadership in SDV technology, crucial for the future mobility ecosystem.

LG is set to accelerate its electronic components business, leading in infotainment, a vital sector in vehicle software, and focusing on developing proprietary solutions in vehicle computing, communication, and operating systems.

The company aims to solidify its position as a top-tier leader by setting global standards and enhancing its products and technologies in infotainment, telematics, and ADAS.

SOAFEE is a Special Interest Group (SIG) founded in 2021 by ARM, focused on creating a cloud-native architecture for automotive applications.

It boasts over 100 company members and aims to support both commercial and non-commercial offerings through open-source reference implementations.

LG joins existing governing body members including Arm, AWS, Bosch, CARIAD, Continental, Red Hat, and SUSE.
