Samsung releases The Wall for virtual production in Europe

Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Friday that it unveiled "The Wall for Virtual Production" at IBC 2023, the world's largest trade fair for electronic media and entertainment technology and content industries, taking place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, until Sept. 18.

The Wall for Virtual Production is available in two variants, P1.68 (with a pixel pitch of 1.68 mm) and P2.1.

It can be customized to envelop an entire studio in a flat or ellipsoidal form with a curvature of up to 5,800R (a circle with a radius of 5,800 mm), making it adaptable to various shooting environments and purposes.

The display features special molding technology, thus suitable for studio environments with high levels of external contaminants, such as dust. It can be installed using both a hanging method, connecting it to the ceiling, and a stacking method, similar to building with Lego blocks.

The solution also includes a virtual production management (VPM) system that allows real-time screen quality adjustments and checking the status of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in studio environments.

"We are launching The Wall specifically for virtual production in Europe, which significantly reduces the time and cost required for on-site location and graphic synthesis," said Chung Hoon, Samsung Electronics' Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business. "We will continue to focus on display development that can contribute to the advancement of broadcasting and video production environments."
