Samsung Galaxy Z foldables set early sales record in Europe

Samsung Electronics Co. 's Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 smartphones have set early sales records in Europe, with annual sales of the company's foldables seen to exceed 10 million units this year.

Benjamin Braun, chief marketing officer of Samsung Europe, on Thursday spoke at a "Samsung press conference" ahead of the opening of this year's IFA, Europe's largest trade show for home appliances, in Berlin, Germany.

He said the Galaxy Z Fold 5 surpassed the performance of its predecessor on the Continent to set a sales record and that annual sales of his company's foldables on this market exceeded those of the now-defunct Note series.

Launched on Aug. 11 in 38 major European markets like the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 have continued their solid early returns by outperforming their predecessors.

Sales of Galaxy's new foldable smartphones got off to a good start in Europe, and the global popularity of these models is expected to grow. Annual sales of the devices including the Z 5 flip and fold versions are seen to easily exceed 10 million units this year.

In Europe, 70% of Z 5 models sold were the Flip 5, whose most popular colors were graphite and mint colors, while those of the Fold 5 were phantom black and ice blue.
