Samsung launches AI-based diet suggestion platform

Samsung Electronics Co. has launched Samsung Food, an integrated food platform that offers a personalized eating experience and connects to the company's customizable line of Bespoke kitchen appliances based on artificial intelligence (AI).

The electronics giant on Thursday held a briefing in Seoul for its new platform, whose formal debut is slated next month at IFA, Europe's largest consumer electronics trade show in Berlin, Germany, that runs from September 1-6.

Samsung Food guides overall dietary management as a one-stop source with functions ranging from searches for recipes from the estimated 160,000 available, meal planning and ingredient management to cooking and content sharing. Using AI, it also offers customized recipes based on personal preference and desired nutritional balance, like making a vegan dish based on the recipe for a meat one with no meat used.

The cooking conditions of a customized recipe are sent directly to a Bespoke oven, with no need for the user to set the cooking temperature or time. Starting with such ovens, Samsung Electronics by year's end will connect Samsung Food to its kitchen appliances such as Bespoke induction and microwave ovens.

Through the community function that allows users to share their recipes with other users, the goal is to attract over a million active users this year.
