Samsung Electronics creates global hit with new gaming monitor

Samsung Electronics Co. ’s new gaming monitor has received over 3,000 advance orders worldwide.

The company on Monday said it began presale of its premium Odyssey OLED G9 in North America and Europe and expanded it to South Korea, China and Southeast Asia in that order.

The 1,800 units initially prepared for North America were sold out in under two weeks, and the 700 allocated for Europe also went fast. In South Korea on June 26, 100 units were sold out in an hour on Naver Shopping Live, an online sales platform in which buyers and sellers can find each other and chat in real time.

The monitor is the world’s first dual QHD high-resolution gaming monitor of OLED panel standard in a 49-inch size and has dual QHD (5120 x 1440) resolution, density of 110 pixels per inch, curved screen of 1800R, the industry’s highest response speed of 0.03 ms and a high refresh rate of 240 Hz.

The new product also applies Samsung Electronics’ exclusive image quality technology Neo Quantum Processor Pro to automatically adjust screen brightness and contrast ratio.

Samsung Electronics has thus proven its competitiveness in launching the pre-sale of a new product. The US-based market research company IDC said that on the global market for gaming monitors with a refresh rate of 100 Hz or higher, Samsung Electronics owned 23% in the first quarter in amount, maintaining its world lead for the fifth consecutive year.
