LG Innotek develops flexible vehicle lighting Nexlide-M

South Korea's electronic component maker LG Innotek on Wednesday announced the release of Nexlide-M, or a flexible 3D lighting component for vehicles four times brighter than conventional products and can identify light emitted during the day.

Nexlide is made by attaching several light sources to a thin substrate. Made with resin, a synthetic material that bends softly, Nexlide-M can be installed on vehicle lighting such as daytime running lights (DRL) and rear combination lamps on the back of a vehicle.

The new product emits a clearer light despite minimization of the number of parts, emitting light up to 500 candelas, with candela being the unit of luminous intensity and global legal standard for DRL. To evenly spread the light, an air gap, or an air layer of a certain thickness, is required inside the light.

The company removed this layer altogether using a new method and reduced thickness to 8 mm, or just 30% of its 24-mm Nexlide.
