Samsung Display's QD-OLED wins SID award

South Korea's Samsung Display announced on Wednesday that its quantum-dot organic light emitting diode (QD-OLED) product received "Displays of the Year" from the Society for Information Display (SID), the world's largest display industry association.

According to SID, QD-OLED achieved excellent performance through its innovative structure combining blue self-emitting pixel technology and oxide TFT technology. It added, "QD-OLED can accurately and consistently reproduce perfect colors that are true to life by emitting light with precise wavelengths through nano-sized quantum dot structures."

SID further commented, "QD-OLED provides stunning color reproduction, exceptional details and an immersive viewing experience through the combination of advanced materials engineering, color indexing and physics."

QD-OLED, Samsung Display's next-generation large-scale display technology, began mass production in 2021 and made its debut in the market in 2022.

Samsung Display stated that QD-OLED has been recognized for achieving the highest color gamut and implementing the widest and most diverse range of colors among commercially available displays, achieving 90% of the UHD (4K) color standard "BT2020" established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

QD-OLED received the innovation award at the CES, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022. It was also selected for the 2022 SID People's Choice Award.

The 2023 model of QD-OLED features high-efficiency organic materials, resulting in a more than 30% improvement in color luminance (screen brightness) and significantly reduced power consumption by enhancing panel efficiency.
