South Korea’s two largest home appliance makers – Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. – have swept a record number of innovation awards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which hosts CES 2023, the world’s largest tech exhibition, in January.
Samsung, the world’s largest memory chip and smartphone maker, said on Thursday 46 of its new products and technologies have received CES 2023 Innovation Award honors, including three Best of Innovation Honorees, a record for the company.
The annual program honors outstanding design and engineering across many consumer technology product categories.
“The awards reinforce our commitment to providing a seamlessly connected, customizable experience for consumers while contributing to an eco-conscious world,” the company said.
Samsung was honored in a wide range of categories – 18 in visual displays, 11 in mobile devices, 10 in home appliances and 7 in chips. The company was recognized as the Best Innovation Honoree – two in visual displays and one in the chip category.

Samsung’s Bespoke AI Laundry products were recognized for their innovative design and integrated AI technologies.
In the mobile sector, most of its latest smartphone lineups such as the Galaxy Z Fold4, Galaxy Z Flip4, Galaxy Watch5, Galaxy Watch5 Pro and Samsung Wallet won top prizes.
LG ALSO SET A RECORD WITH 28 AWARDS
Meanwhile, LG Electronics said it was recognized for its latest products' technological and design excellence, earning a record 28 CES 2023 Innovation Awards, including three Best of Innovation Awards for LG OLED in the computer peripherals, gaming and video display categories.
Of the 28 honors, 10 went to LG OLED TVs, marking the 11th consecutive year that the company’s self-lit TVs have received CES Innovation Awards.

The 88-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K TV was recognized in three categories, while ultra-large 97-inch OLED and LG OLED Flex, a groundbreaking TV boasting the world’s first bendable 42-inch OLED screen, were double honorees, it said.
LG’s home appliances that won Innovation Awards include the LG PuriCare Aero Furniture; the premium LG CordZero All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop; the LG WashTower Compact, LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor; and LG XBOOM 360 Bluetooth speaker system.
SK Innovation Co. said its subsidiaries, SK On Co. and SK IE Technology Co., received eight innovation awards.
SK On's SF Battery won the Best of Innovation Award in the “Built-in Technology” sector. The SF battery has the fastest charging speed among electric vehicle batteries currently available in the market, it said.
CES 2023 will take place from Jan. 5 to 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
