Samsung Engineering Co. will change its name to Samsung E&A Co. upon approval at a shareholders' meeting on March 21.
The letter E in the proposed new name stands for “engineers” and also denotes “energy,” “environment” and “enabler,” the company said on Thursday.
The A is short for “ahead,” underscoring its commitment to taking the lead in South Korea’s engineering industry.
The company was established in 1970 under the name of Korea Engineering. It was the first engineering company in South Korea.
Samsung Group acquired it in 1978, and its name was changed to Samsung Engineering in 1991.
