South Korea's Dongbu Corporation surpassed 1 trillion won ($727 million) in new orders this year by securing a 200 billion won ($145 million) railway construction contract.
Dongbu Corp. announced on Tuesday that it won a contract for the Chuncheon-Sokcho railway construction, Section 2, commissioned by Korea National Railway, which includes new trackbed construction and other works.
This project involves building a tunnel and trackbed over an 11 km section from Sancheon-ri, Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon City, to Gancheok-ri, Gandong-myeon, Hwacheon County in Gangwon Province.
The total contract amount is 292.5 billion won, with Dongbu Corp.'s share being 204.8 billion won.
The construction period is approximately 57 months, or 4 years and 9 months, from the commencement date.
The Chuncheon-Sokcho railway construction project (East-West High-speed Railway Project) is a large-scale project divided into eight sections, with a total project cost of 1.6 trillion won.
Including this project, the total amount of orders Dongbu Corp. has secured so far this year amounts 1.12 trillion won.
As of the first quarter of this year, the order backlog is about 9.5 trillion won.
