HD Hyundai to supply 60 excavators to Sudan

South Korea's HD Hyundai Construction Equipment Co. announced on Wednesday that it recently signed a contract to supply 60 construction equipment units, including six 34-ton large excavators and 36 22-ton medium-sized excavators, in Sudan, Africa.

The company explained that HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's re-entry into the Sudanese market, among global construction machinery brands, was the first since the resumption of construction machinery trade following the country's civil war.

The company's excavator sales in the African market show signs of recovery. While excavator sales were around 500 units in 2021, they decreased by almost half last year.

However, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment expects sales in the first quarter of this year to grow by about 50% year over year.

The company diversified its sales channels and identified large dealers. It has appointed regional dealers to handle sales in seven countries, including Mauritania, and secured new dealer contracts in countries like South Sudan and Ethiopia since the beginning of this year.

According to global research firm Mordor Intelligence, the African construction equipment market is expected to grow at an average annual growth rate of 5.1%, from $58.4 billion in 2021 to $74.8 billion in 2029.
