South Korea's Heerim Architects & Planners announced on Monday that it has signed a construction-phase supervision and advisory contract for the Long Thanh International Airport passenger terminal in Vietnam. Heerim will be responsible for design inspection and supervision during the construction phase.

Heerim was previously awarded the international conceptual design for the Long Thanh International Airport passenger terminal in 2018 and performed the basic design work for one year. The architecture firm also secured in 2021 the contract for detailed design and completed it.

The amount awarded to Heerim for this airport project is 28 billion won ($21.4 million). The total construction cost of the entire project, which is Vietnam's largest infrastructure development project to date, is 1.8 trillion won ($1.4 billion).

The significance of this contract lies in Heerim's contribution to both the design and supervision of the core element of the airport, the passenger terminal, according to the company's explanation.

Located about 40 km east of Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh Airport is a phase one project, scheduled to be completed by 2026, with a goal of accommodating 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo. The project includes runways, terminals, supporting facilities and the development of the surrounding area.

Furthermore, in the final phase, phase three, the airport aims to build four terminals and four runways to accommodate 100 million passengers annually.
