Samsung Global Goals app rakes in over million in charity 3 years after launch

Samsung Electronics Co. on Monday said Samsung Global Goals, a charity app for the company's Galaxy smartphones and devices, exceeded $10 million in cumulative donations.

The milestone comes three years after the app's launch. Around 300 million Galaxy smartphones, tablets and wearables have the app installed, with any user of such a device able to download and use it.

Samsung Global Goals was launched in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the purpose of solving global challenges.

This app introduces the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) selected by the UNDP like education problems, climate change and alleviation of poverty and the activities of global youth to resolve them.

Users can make donations simply by watching in-app ads, a process through which Samsung Electronics matches a user's raised amount on a one-on-one basis.

The funds raised by the app goes to the UNDP to support youth activities in more than 100 countries to achieve the SDGs.

Roh Tae-moon, president and head of Samsung Electronics' Mobile eXperience Division, said, "We believe that Samsung Electronics' technology can help solve the various problems facing Earth," adding, "We express our deep gratitude to Galaxy users who helped us meet our objectives through the Global Goals app."
