SK Telecom launches ICT infrastructure device

SK Telecom Co. on Wednesday said it launched Cloud Appliance, a cloud infrastructure device based on an ARM chipset.

The company applied its virtualization technology to optimize commercial software on an ARM-based server with high core density and power efficiency. Cloud Appliance can be used in all cloud environments, not only the company’s operating infrastructure.

“Compared to x86-based servers, this reduces costs up to 40%,” an SK Telecom source said.

To launch the product, SK Telecom received an ARM-based server from server maker Hewlett Packard Korea, applied its self-developed virtualization solution and later used a TmaxSoft server solution. The three companies on Sept. 25 signed a deal on cooperation to target this market.
