HD Hyundai Oilbank Co., a South Korean crude oil refiner backed by Saudi Aramco, said on Thursday it started to supply Taiwan-based Yang Ming Marine Transport with bio very low sulfur fuel oil (bio VLSFO).
It's the first South Korean company to export bio VLSFO to an overseas firm.
Bio VLSFO is a blend of traditional ship fuel and biodiesel. It's based on ship fuel in line with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Bio VLSFO doesn't require modifications to ship engines or fuel supply systems, and it can be distributed through existing infrastructure.
This exported Bio VLSFO was produced using VLSFO with a sulfur content of 0.5 percent or less.
