SK Chemicals develops recycled plastic LP records

South Korea's SK Chemicals Co. unveils recycled plastic LP records.

The company announced on Thursday it has jointly developed the EcoRecord, an LP record made from 100% recycled plastic with Germany-based global music production company Sonopress.

Sonopress is a subsidiary of Bertelsmann, Germany's largest media group, and specializes in the production of compact discs (CDs) and other media formats.

The two companies created the EcoRecord using circular recycled PET (CR PET) instead of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is traditionally used in making vinyl records. In addition, they achieved an 85% reduction in energy consumption during the record production process by implementing process innovations that do not rely on natural gas and steam.
