South Korea's chemical and auto parts manufacturer KCC Corp. said on Thursday that it has launched the Firemask AQ Series, the first organic water-based fire-resistant paint in Korea.
The newly released Fire Mask AQ-1000 and AQ-2000 can dry four times faster than existing oil-based fire-resistant paints and can be used up to twice a day.
According to KCC's explanation, this can shorten the construction period and minimize coating defects during transport and installation after painting.
The Firemask AQ series is a halogen-free product that has no harmful substances that destroy ozone by minimizing volatile organic compound content.
Fire-resistant paint has the property of preventing building collapse and fire spread by slowing the temperature rise of steel frames by foaming the coating film coated on the steel frame in the event of a building fire.
In addition to fire-resistance performance, organic water-based fire-resistant paint is a product that has enhanced eco-friendliness by replacing oil-soluble resin in the paint with water-soluble resin.
"The Firemask AQ series boasts fire-resistance performance even with a finer film thickness than other oil-based fire-resistant paints and obtained a certificate of fire-resistant structure from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology," said a KCC official.
"It also emits less pollutant according to the Indoor Air Quality Control Act, and it was selected as an indoor use certified product," he added.
