SKC's film business units change their names, start anew

SKC Future Materials and SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing, which had newly been established through the spin-off of SKC's industrial materials division (film division), will change their names to make a fresh start.

SKC Future Materials and its subsidiary SK Hi-Tech & Marketing said on Tuesday that they would change their names to SK Microworks and SK Microworks Solutions, respectively.

SK Microworks is a company in charge of the original business of SKC, which developed PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film for the first time in Korea, and is commercializing various film materials.

SK Microworks Solutions, meanwhile, is developing future material processing technologies applicable to mobile, display, and IT devices by processing films and materials.

The two companies set out to expand their business in earnest as global materials specialist firms with future materials and eco-friendly films as their core items.

Hahn & Co., a private equity fund firm, acquired SKC's industrial materials business division, the predecessor of SK Microworks, and SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing, a film processing subsidiary, last month.

"As a leading company in the film materials industry with the technological prowess and production capacity, we plan to continue growing through change and innovation with the launch of a new management structure and the change of the corporate name," said Lee Yong-seon, CEO of SK Microworks.
