Doosan Corp. starts building flexible copper-clad layer plant

South Korea's Doosan Corp. is expanding its production line for flexible cooper-clad layers (FCCL) to boost competitiveness in electronic materials and parts.

The company on Thursday said it broke ground for a high-end FCCL plant covering 13,000 of its host site Gimje Horizon General Industrial Complex's 82,211 square meters in Gimje, North Jeolla Province.

FCCL is a key material for flexible printed circuit boards used in electronic products such as smartphones and tablet PCs.

In addition, FCCL is a core material for making patterned flat cable (PFC), which can replace wiring harnesses used in battery packs for electric vehicles and other electrical parts. High-end FCCL production is also expected to raise the competitiveness of PFC operations.

"Our setup of this production line seeks to preemptively respond to rapidly changing demand on the market," a Doosan source said. "High-end FCCL has a high-tech entry barrier, but we will solidify this unit early through our know-how and experience accumulated over a long period in the cable-clad layer sector."
