SK C&C invests in US startup Glassdome

South Korea's SK C&C announced on Thursday that it has made a new investment in Glassdome, a US carbon emission management solution startup.

While the specifics were not disclosed, the investment signifies a broader trend of technology companies ramping up efforts to address environmental challenges.

Glassdome, established in 2019, leverages the Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time data management and is rooted in a life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology for carbon management.

SK C&C's move comes as corporations brace for tighter carbon regulations, notably in the European Union (EU), where new mandates are expected from next year.

With this partnership, the firms aim to capitalize on the market of product carbon emission management solutions, drawing heavily on LCA insights.

The companies have been jointly developing the "Digital Carbon Passport Platform" since May, aiming to efficiently manage emissions data up to the encompassing Scope 3 supply chains.

Scope 3 emissions cover greenhouse gas outputs throughout a company's value chain, from raw material extraction to product end-use.

Additionally, SK C&C and Glassdome are set to develop smart factory solutions targeting medium and smaller manufacturing units, a move reflecting the rising demand for digital integration in traditional industries.
