South Korea's LG Chem Ltd. on Tuesday said it received certification for its calculation method for product carbon footprints (PCF) from the global testing institution TUV Rheinland of Germany.
Expressed as product units, PCF is the value of CO2 emissions generated throughout the production process such as in raw material collection, processing, transportation and manufacturing.
The calculation method for the PCFs of LG Chem follows international standards and contains required designated norms entered in such standards such as ways of data collection and calculation and impact assessment.
Through this certification, LG Chem has secured global credibility in PCF calculation of items like battery and eco-friendly materials, which it has quantified on its own since 2021.
Given rising demand for certification information from global clients in tandem with that for low-carbon products, the company will apply its authentication method to its Carbon Footprint Analysis and Management Platform (CAMP), a self-developed automated system for carbon footprint calculation, and aggressively target the market for low-carbon eco-friendly products.
CAMP can minimize human error by selecting necessary data from in-house enterprise resource management systems without the need to input additional data, the company said, as well as respond to the needs of global clients by computing accurate PCFs within minutes.
By 2025, LG Chem will apply and upgrade its PCF system for use on items produced at all of its domestic and foreign business sites.
