S.Korean gov’t to export domestic tax service system abroad

South Korea's National Tax Service (NTS) is looking to export its world-renowned electronic tax administration system after successfully implementing it in Indonesia. The NTS is collaborating with leading domestic system integration (SI) companies, such as Samsung SDS Co., to establish the "K-Electronic Taxation" system in Hungary, Tanzania, and other countries.

In a meeting held on Tuesday between NTS Commissioner Kim Changki and his Hungarian counterpart, Ferenc Vágujhelyi, Commissioner of the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary, Kim introduced the superiority of the Korean electronic tax system. The meeting was held at the request of the Hungarian Tax Authority, which sought to learn from Korea's experience in electronic taxation. "The big data systems of domestic information technology (IT) companies and the analysis experience of the NTS could be of great help to Hungary's digital transformation in tax administration," said Commissioner Kim.

Recently, the NTS held a meeting with domestic SI companies, including Samsung SDS, LG CNS, and SK C&C, to discuss export strategies for the electronic tax administration system. Furthermore, at the request of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the NTS dispatched a high-level government delegation to cooperate in building a national tax computer system.

According to the NTS, tax officials from Southeast and Central Asia, Central and South America visit Korea every year to benchmark their electronic tax administration systems. In 2020, LG CNS signed a contract with the Indonesian Tax Authority to establish the "CTAS (Customs and Tax Administration System)."

"The NTS's website for the operation of the 'Hometax' is of the world's highest standard," said Commissioner Kim, adding, "We plan to promote our advanced electronic taxation system worldwide and actively support the export of domestic companies."
