Bigsome Bio, a subsidiary of Lotte Chilsung Beverage, has begun research on functional materials for respiratory health.

The company said on Friday that it has signed a technology transfer and business agreement with Gyeongsang National University's Industry-Academia Collaboration Group for research on compositions for preventing or treating respiratory diseases.

Since the publication of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's individually recognized guidelines for respiratory health, there has been no new case of approval.

Bigsome Bio is seeking to complete the development of new materials for respiratory health through studies that confirm the improvement of allergic inflammation in the bronchial tubes, the improvement of antioxidant capacity, and the reduction of the number of inflammatory cells through animal experiments.

"Recently, interest in respiratory health is on the rise, and if not managed from a preventive perspective, the number of people with respiratory diseases will increase and social cost will also rise significantly. We will try to develop naturally derived materials to address these problems," said Park Ji-ye, CEO of Bigsome Bio.

Bigsome Bio, a company specializing in functional health food R&D and distribution platforms, was incorporated as a subsidiary of Lotte Chilsung Beverage in September this year. In preparation for the super-aging era, the company is studying individually recognized materials for functional health foods.

The company was also selected as a contractor subject to regulation exemption on the small-amount sale of functional health food and launched a service that recommends personalized functional health food.
