South Korea's Amorepacific Corp. announced on Thursday that it has received New Excellent Technology (NET) certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for its technology related to the production of green tea extract ingredients with memory-enhancing effects.

This technology involves the conversion of key components of green tea, such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), into other compounds like gallocatechin gallate (GCG), through the "high content non-epicatechin green tea extract ingredient production technology."

The catechin composition of the heat-processed green tea extract, produced through this technology, has been shown to have memory-enhancing effects, the company explained.

The company has filed for a patent for this technology. The heat-processed green tea extract ingredient has been registered as an individually recognized raw material for health functional food for memory enhancement through the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Amorepacific plans to develop memory-enhancing products using this technology and launch them in the first half of next year.

"We have been recognized for the excellence of the technology that confirms memory-enhancing effects, which is the first for domestically sourced green tea ingredients. Amorepacific will lead the rapidly growing memory enhancement market," said Suh Byung-Fhy, Director of the R&I Center at Amorepacific.
