South Korea's HD Hyundai Infracore Co. said on Monday it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, Gunsan City, and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation to construct an engine and battery pack plant.
Under the agreement, HD Hyundai Infracore will establish an engine production plant for defense and ultra-large-scale power generation and a battery packaging plant in 2027 on a 62,700-square-meter site in Gunsan.
The new facility will be able to produce 120 defense engines for electric vehicles and 1,250 large power generation engines up to 3 megawatts.
It can also produce 880 megawatt hours of battery packs, enough to power 3,000 electric buses.
HD Hyundai Infracore will meet the demand for tank engines and additional defense engines for export to Poland and Turkuye.
HD Hyundai Infracore currently produces battery packs for Doosan Bobcat at its Incheon plant.
The plant also produces battery packs for electric trucks launched by Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle.
