South Korea's No. 1 secondary battery maker LG Energy Solution Ltd. and Seoul National University on Friday signed an agreement to establish an industry-academia cooperation center at the latter's campus.

The two sides will create a joint industry-academia cooperation system to secure an R&D network and foster an excellent workforce, and work together in developing next-generation battery technology.

They selected nine industry-academia cooperation tasks, including the development of sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries and materials for lithium-sulfur batteries.

"Through this collaboration, we will secure next-generation battery materials and analysis technologies, enhance customer value, and actively nurture excellent human resources," said Shin Young-Joon, chief technology officer (CTO) of LG Energy.

"It is an opportunity for our research infrastructure and people to grow further. We hope that the latest partnership will contribute to developing next-generation battery technology," said Hong Yoo-Seok, dean of Seoul National University's College of Engineering.
