Hyundai Mobis Co., the world’s sixth-largest automotive parts maker, known as Mobis outside of its home South Korea, announced Thursday that it developed an integrated front face module for electric vehicles (EVs).
Hyundai Mobis explained that this integrated module maintains the traditional grille shape of internal combustion engine cars while reducing air resistance and ensuring design diversity.
It automatically opens and closes parts such as the grille and hood while minimizing air resistance during high-speed driving to improve energy efficiency.
It employs external air intake, conducting heat exchange, and guiding air exhaust to increase battery cooling efficiency while controlling airflow.
According to Hyundai Mobis, this system alone extends the driving range of electric vehicles by 20 km.
Hyundai Mobis also incorporated advanced technologies such as a LiDAR that protrudes and operates only during driving, automatic retrieval of charging equipment after charging is complete, and closure of caps and covers for charging ports into this module.
It enhanced design elements such as LED lighting while maintaining the traditional grille shape.
Technologies were also applied to prevent external contamination and impact on sensors while enhancing the overall design coherence with a smooth appearance.
