ZKW wins DVN Lighting Star Award

ZKW, an Austria-based lighting systems subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., recently was presented with the Lighting Star Award for Best front lighting design by the industry association DVN (Driving Vision News) in Munich, Germany.

The award recognizes the innovative front lighting design that ZKW developed for the animated Thorhammer LED headlights of the Volvo EX90.

The daytime running lights (DRL) of the Volvo EX90's headlamps feature a unique design inspired by Thor's Hammer. When activated in DRL mode, the hammer-shaped DRL illuminates vertically, revealing the main headlamp beneath.

The EX90's headlamps, boasting a high resolution of 1.3 million pixels, automatically adjust the intensity and height of the light based on the traffic situation to prevent glare to pedestrians or drivers of oncoming vehicles.

In August 2018, LG Electronics acquired ZKW to bolster its automotive parts business's portfolio of future growth engines.

ZKW has developed differentiated technological capabilities in the headlamp field, a crucial component for automobiles, securing premium manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche as clients.
