Hyundai Transys installs EV-customized seats on Kia EV9

South Korea's auto components maker Hyundai Transys on Thursday said it applied electric vehicle (EV) seat technology customized for electrification to Kia Corp.'s sport-utility vehicle (SUV) EV9.

In a world first, Hyundai Transys applied to the EV9 the jointly developed technologies dynamic body care and low-power carbon heating wire as well as the nation's first tilting walk-in technology.

Dynamic body care provides a massaging effect on the vehicle by combining blow and vibration types. It directly stimulates the body more than the conventional pneumatic vibration type, and a dedicated display can adjust the massage method and intensity of five-step knocking and three-step vibration.

The low-power carbon-heating wire heats the seats using metal-coated carbon fiber with more than double the durability and over 15% less power consumption than conventional metal heating wire, raising power efficiency.

The tilting walk-in technology tilts forward the second-row seats, which used to move back and forth only when getting on and off the third row, more than doubling the space to board and disembark. The function is highly convenient as it can be used even with a child safety seat on it.

"We will continue innovation in the electrification era by combining our comfort technologies accumulated through making flagship seats such those of the (Hyundai) Genesis G90 and developing seats for the American EV companies Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors," a Hyundai Transys source said.
