Just like calligraphy — the art of turning simple handwriting into artwork — Hyundai Motor Co. has taken its flagship three-row SUV Palisade Calligraphy into a work of art. Affordable art at that.

South Korea's top automaker said on Friday it is launching the Palisade 2024 model in the domestic market ahead of its shipments to the US and emerging markets later this year.

The facelift of the Hyundai family vehicle includes the Calligraphy Black Edition, an all-black concept, at the top of the hierarchy.

The Calligraphy Black Edition boasts features such as a tinted plated exterior, 20-inch wheels, a black roof rack and seats with premium quilted Nappa leather.

The Palisade 2024 is notable also for the addition of a special trim, Le Blanc, at competitive prices.

Le Blanc comes with various customer-preferred specifications as standard, including Smart Power Tailgate, 20-inch wheels, Michelin tires, a 12.3-inch touch screen, first-row power seats, wireless smartphone charging, a rear side-collision warning system and a surround-view monitor.

The latest Palisade also boasts a new interior color, Cool Gray — a combination of gray and black — in a lush luxurious style.

Retail prices of the Palisade 2024 vary by model, with the entry-level Exclusive at 38.67 million won ($29,483); the Prestige at 45.90 million won; and the Calligraphy at 50.69 million won.

Buoyed by strong sales of SUVs and high-end models, Hyundai’s global vehicle sales in the first quarter rose 13% to 1.02 million units from 902,700 a year earlier.
