Ace View Co., a South Korean surround view monitoring system provider, has unveiled a new product that works at driving speeds of as high as 100 km per hour.

Unlike similar products that operate only at vehicle driving speeds of 5 to 10 km an hour, Ace View’s M-AVM gives the driver a complete view around the car at higher speeds in real-time, significantly improving vehicle safety and enhancing the driving experience, it said.

“By installing four 185-degree ultra-wide-angle cameras, one each on the front, rear, left and right sides of the vehicle, the driver can see the surroundings of the vehicle without distortion, as if looking down from above,” said Son Seung-seo, CEO of Ace View, formerly known as I&T Korea Co.

The full-HD three-dimensional (3D) system works even when the vehicle runs at 100 km an hour – the world’s first such system, he said.

The around vehicle monitoring system, which assists reverse driving, was first developed by Japan’s Nissan Motor Co. and Faurecia Clarion Electronics Co., a Japanese in-vehicle infotainment system maker, in 2007.

Ace View’s M-AVM uses technology to process images in real-time at 30 frames per second, offering complete awareness of the situation around the car and identifying blind areas with its 360-perimeter surround view monitoring system, the company said.

The technology uses field-programmable gate array (FPGA) chips for video processing, storage, and transmission.

“Since images are transmitted in real-time by the central control system, even when the vehicle is destroyed in an accident, the cause of the accident can be identified. We expect the system to replace the black box in the near future,” said the chief executive.

More than 3,000 vehicles in Korea use Ace View’s surround view monitoring systems, according to the company.
