South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group sold more than 100,000 units of electric vehicles (EVs) that adopted Hyundai Motor’s E-GMP, or Electric-Global Modular Platform.

Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp., two pillars of the auto-making group, released sales data on Tuesday, which showed sales of E-GMP-based EVs in the domestic market from April last year to November this year reached 108,846 units.

Hyundai's IONIQ 5 topped the sales list with 49,359 units (48.9%), followed by Kia’s EV6 with 34,638 units (34.3%), Hyundai's IONIQ 6 with 10,232 units (10.1%), and the Genesis GV60 with 66,617 units (6.6%).,

E-GMP is an EV-dedicated platform, comprising the chassis of the vehicle including the battery, motor, and power electric system.

Its scalable wheelbase allows it to form the backbone of many different types of vehicles, Hyundai Motor Group explained, adding its V2L functions that can supply battery power to other EVs or external devices and ultra-fast charging systems that can charge battery capacity from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes are also considered advantages.

Sales of E-GMP-dedicated EVs were 34,884 units last year, the first year of their launch in Korea, and 65,962 units during the first 11 months of this year, showing high sales growth.

E-GMP models are recognized for their marketability by winning recognitions at major world awards such as "World Car of the Year" and "European Car of the Year."

Next year, Hyundai Motor Group plans to release new E-GMP-dedicated EVs including the high-performance EV IONIQ 5N and large electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) EV9s.
