Hyundai’s Genesis ranks top in J.D. Power’s innovative tech study

Hyundai Automotive Groups' three brands have swept the top industry awards in recent years, boosting global sales

Hyundai Motor Co.'s premium brand Genesis has been recognized by industry analysts for its excellence in innovative technology and consumer experience, boosting its global sales.

In this year’s J.D. Power Tech Experience Index (TXI) study, Genesis was named winner of the overall segment with a score of 643 on a 1,000-point scale.

Genesis beat rivals such as GM’s premium brand Cadillac (584 points), Mercedes-Benz (539), Volvo (526) and BMW (516) to pick up the J.D. Power trophies, Hyundai Motor said on Friday. Land Rover scored 509, followed by Infiniti (492) and Lexus (491).

The Korean luxury brand’s latest feat marks its second consecutive year to grab the top honor.

The TXI study shows how effectively automotive brands bring technologies to the market. It examines the penetration level of advanced technologies and consumers’ assessment regarding the execution quality of the technologies.

The study analyzes 35 technologies under four categories – convenience; emerging automation; energy and sustainability; and infotainment and connectivity.

This year’s TXI study is based on responses from 84,165 owners of new 2022 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study was conducted from February through May of this year.

HYUNDAI, KIA LEAD MASS-MARKET SEGMENT

Hyundai Motor and Kia Corp., the two automaking units of Hyundai Motor Group, ranked first and second, respectively, in the J.D. Power study’s mass-market segment. Hyundai Motor won the top post for the third straight year.

In the overall brand ranking, Hyundai Motor ranked fourth this year, beating out Volvo and BMW. Kia ranked eighth.

In recent years, the three Korean brands have swept the top industry awards in recognition of their safety, quality and technological advancement, boosting their sales globally.

In February, Kia became the top-ranked automaker in J.D. Power’s 2022 US Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) ahead of GM’s Buick as well as premium brands such as Porsche and Lexus.

The achievement came on the heels of Kia ascending to the top post in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study (IQS) awards in previous years.

In J.D. Power’s 2022 Product Satisfaction Survey released last month, seven Hyundai Automotive Group models, including the Palisade SUV, the EV6 crossover and the Genesis EV sedan G80, ranked first in their respective categories.
