South Korea’s Mirae Asset Global Investments Co. said on Wednesday it has appointed Ryan O’Connor, a Goldman Sachs veteran, as chief executive officer of Global X ETF, the New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds.
In his new position, O’Connor will be responsible for driving Global X’s strategy, reinvigorating its product suite and leading the firm’s investment teams from April 8, Mirae Asset said.
He held various roles at Goldman Sachs for around seven years from 2017, including the global head of ETF products.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, he spent 11 years at Boston, Massachusetts-headquartered State Street Global Advisors where he led diverse financial products and capital markets teams.
Mirae Asset acquired Global X for $488 million in 2018. The Korean asset manager also bought Sydney-based ETF Securities for 120 billion won ($89.9 million) and rebranded it as Global X in Australia.
With a global presence spanning the Americas, Europe and Asia, Global X managed around $51 billion in assets as of Dec. 31, 2023.
“Ryan has a notable track record of driving growth across the ETF value chain for the world's largest asset managers. He is eager to bring his ETF industry experience and strategic, growth-oriented mindset to Global X, and we are excited to have him on board to help take the business to its next level,” said Hyeon Joo Park, founder and global strategy officer of Mirae Asset Financial Group.
