The Korea Economic Daily (KED) is hosting a global financial conference for Korean investors in the heart of New York City in October, where top Wall Street portfolio managers and analysts will share their views on and tips for the rapidly changing investment environment.

During the "HANKYUNG Global Market Conference NYC 2022," high-profile Wall Street asset managers and decision-makers, including Oaktree Capital Management Co-Chairman Howard Marks, will offer their assessments of financial markets and discuss investment risks and portfolio strategy.

The Oct. 5-7 conference in Manhattan will be joined by ultra-high-net-worth investors, institutional investors, entrepreneurs and corporate treasurers from South Korea, along with executives of major Korean banks, asset managers and security firms.

The KED is holding the three-day gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the launch of “HANKYUNG Global Market,” a news platform dedicated to the increasing number of Korean investors with an appetite for overseas assets.

The “HANKYUNG Global Market,” the first such platform among Korean news providers, offers up-to-date information and in-depth analyses of global stock markets and other asset classes, alongside their investment landscape.

The New York conference will cover both stock and alternative investments ranging from real estate, private equity and private credit to hedge funds and venture capital.

On Oct. 6, the formal session will begin with a speech by Eric S. Rosengren, former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, who served as president of the bank for 14 years until he retired at the end of September 2021.

As a former member of the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee, he will speak about macroeconomic risks and the Fed’s expected policy responses.

Howard Marks, co-founder and co-chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, will provide his analysis on financial markets as one of the most successful Wall Street investors. The author of “Mastering the Market Cycle” will explain the current stage of market cycles.

Admiral James Stavridis, vice chairman and managing director of The Carlyle Group, will give his insight into a new cold war and investment implications.

For stock markets, Jae Yoon, the chief investment officer of New York Life Investments, will present his views and portfolio mixes as a US buy-side institution. From the sell-side, Thomas Lee, founder and managing partner of Fundstrat Global Advisors will give his outlook and asset management strategy for both US and global markets.

Alex Chi, Goldman Sachs Asset Management partner and co-head for private credit in the Americas, will speak about private credit, the hottest asset class of late.

As for hedge funds, Michael Chung, deputy global head of equities at Millennium Management, will discuss the industry landscape and investment strategy. Millennium Managemen is one of the largest hedge fund firms, with $57.5 billion under management.

Gregory Hall, managing director and head of US global wealth management at PIMCO, will share the investment house’s insightful “Secular Outlook,” the most closely-watched report among global investors.

In the Secular Outlook, the leading fixed-income investor introduced often-quoted theme words such as “New Normal” and “New Neutral.” PIMCO predicted the subprime crisis and warned of its risk ahead of other global investment companies.

The Secular Report delivers PIMCO's view on where the global economy is expected to head for the next three to five years. It is released during a three-day forum of its global advisory board, composed of PIMCO’s all investment professionals and outside experts. It is chaired by Ben Bernanke, a former Federal Reserve chair.

BLOCKCHAIN AND ART

On the first day of the conference, an onsite guided tour of Christie’s New York gallery will be accompanied by its art specialist. Tour participants will be able to enjoy the legendary auction house’s art collection, while listening to a lecture on art investment trends by one of its senior executives.

The following session will deal with the next-generation Web 3.0 platform and blockchain. Non-fungible tokens such as the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BACY) NFTs and cryptocurrencies will also be introduced as a future of art.

Nicole Muniz, chief executive of Yuga Labs behind the BAYC, will give a fireside chat with BOND Capital’s General Partner Daegwon Chae about the present and future of NFTs.

A senior executive of Christie’s will give an assessment of NFTs as a future art and introduce NFT projects.

On the sidelines of formal sessions, networking opportunities will be provided with senior Wall Street bankers and money managers of Korean descent.

VISIT TO 'BILLIONAIRES ROW'

On the last day of the conference on Oct. 7, a half-day tour will be arranged to look around super-luxury condominiums on Billionaires Row, where residential skyscrapers overlook Manhattan’s financial district, Central Park and the Hudson River.
