South Korea's think tank LG AI Research has teamed up with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to develop the world's first patent screening system using hyperscale artificial intelligence.
Both sides on Friday said they signed a deal to build a hyperscale AI model exclusively for patents at LG Science Park in northwestern Seoul.
Under their agreement, the two will jointly develop Patent Expert AI for use in administrative services such as search, classification and summary of patent documents.
To this end, KIPO will provide its patent information including AI learning data and share the know-how acquired through the development of AI services exclusively for patents. The institute will build and transfer a hyperscale AI model exclusively for patents and provide training to utilize them.
The two sides prepared for this venture from last month. To build Patent Expert AI, the key is the collection and processing of patent documents to be learned through the hyperscale AI-language model Exaone Universe.
"At a time when AI technological development is important for national competitiveness, we are extremely pleased to sign a business agreement with LG AI Research, which has strengths in the AI field of expertise," KIPO Commissioner Lee In-sil said. "As the world's first attempt to apply hyperscale AI to patent administration, provision of the world's best patent screening service will be a huge help to KIPO."
"I think that the integration of KIPO's patent data and know-how with LG's AI technology will create greater synergy," LG AI Research chief Bae Kyung-hoon said. "We will work closely with KIPO to make advanced global case studies of the use of hyperscale AI."
