Samsung Research, the research and development (R&D) hub of Samsung Electronics Co., has proven its excellence in artificial intelligence-based (AI) translation technology by winning a prize in a global competition for machine translation.
The think tank and its affiliate Samsung R&D Research Poland on Sunday said they won awards in the contest hosted by the Workshop on Machine Translation, one of the world's two biggest events of its kind.
Machine translation is a technology that uses computers to translate languages.
Language Lab under Samsung Research's Global AI Center won the biomedical domain translation category of the competition for English- to Spanish-language translation and vice versa.
To solve the problem of so many specialized terms in medicine, the think tank applied the technique of "soft constrained terminology translation" and received favorable reviews.
In the category for general machine translation task that evaluates translation of news, Samsung R&D Institute Poland took second for both English and Russian and English and Croatian.
