Access management of facial recognition needs the most improvement this year and artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions such as intelligent closed-circuit television (CCTV) will keep rising in popularity, a study has found.

South Korea's system securities provider S-1 Corp. on Monday said 29.2% of the poll's 15,000 respondents urged better access control for facial recognition in a 2023 security trend survey conducted from Dec. 28-31 on 850,000 people, with 7.3% picking intelligent CCTV. Thus the two categories combined meant that 36.5% favored AI-based video analysis solutions.

High demand for supplementary solutions for things like preventing serious disasters was also seen like those using big data with 25.5% and others using cloud networks with 17.9%.

Based on the survey's findings, S-1 selected four major trends driving growth of the security market this year: market leadership of AI-based image analysis solutions, spotlight on safety-related solutions, continued popularity of noncontact solutions and physical security.

"A characteristic of AI technology is automated recognition of abnormal situations such as theft, trespassing and collapse that can boost safety as well as the convenience of users and administrators," an S-1 source said. "AI-based solutions that satisfy both customer safety and convenience will gain popularity this year."
