Korean Air, LX Pantos sign SAF business agreement

Korean Air Lines Co. signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) business with LX Pantos Co.

This MOU is in line with Korean Air's Customer Participating SAF Collaboration Program, which is the first of its kind in the domestic air cargo sector. LX Pantos is the first collaborator in this program, joining in the sustainable transformation of the global aviation industry.

Under this agreement, both companies agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the air cargo sector and enhance domestic awareness of SAF usage.

LX Pantos will participate in purchasing SAF for Korean Air's cargo transportation. Korean Air plans to share its carbon emission reduction achievements resulting from SAF use.

SAF is an alternative fuel made from environmentally friendly sources, capable of being blended with conventional aviation fuel. It can achieve a reduction of over 80% in carbon emissions compared to conventional fossil fuel-based aviation fuel.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) anticipates that the use of SAF will play a crucial role, constituting the largest share (65%) in future carbon emission reduction efforts within the aviation industry.
