KAI, Hyundai Rotem start space mobility working group

Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) and Hyundai Rotem Co. announced on Friday that they held a kickoff meeting for a working group on the commercialization of space mobility.

The working group was created based on the Agreement for Cooperation in the Future Space Sector, signed by the two companies at the "Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2023" held in October last year.

In line with the arrival of the new space era and the opening of the Korea Aerospace Administration, they plan to develop core technologies in space mobility, such as reusable launch vehicles and space vehicles, for commercialization in domestic and overseas markets.

They aim to enhance global competitiveness through joint business ventures.

The working group plans to hold regular monthly meetings to establish a collaboration structure that can create synergies and develop a feasible business model for space mobility.

KAI has been involved in various large-scale satellite projects, including the multipurpose satellite series, geostationary satellites, and lunar orbiters over the past 30 years.

The company is expanding its business as a space-specialized company covering satellites and launch vehicles, such as its participation as the main assembly and manufacturing company for the domestic launch vehicle project.

Hyundai Rotem, starting with the testing and launch facility building and engine manufacturing for the KSR-3, the first domestic liquid rocket that began in 1998, possesses technology in propulsion system development and supply chain testing facilities for propulsion systems.
