Samsung Medical Center jobs global top 10 in robot-assisted surgeries

Samsung Medical Center announced Tuesday that it performed more than 15,000 robot-assisted operations in the first of this year.  

Last year alone, it conducted about 2,700 robot-assisted surgeries, the tenth highest in the world. 

Robot-assisted surgeries for urinary cancer accounted for 1,700 of the cases, the highest in the country and the second highest in the world. 

Samsung Medical Center began conducting robot-assisted surgeries in 2008 with the opening of its cancer treatment clinic. 

In November 2017, Intuitive Surgical, the world’s first manufacturer of surgical robots, opened an innovation and training center in Seoul.

The Center for Surgical Innovation is the Silicon Valley-based company’s fourth such facility worldwide, designed to run robotic training programs with its da Vinci robotic surgical system for domestic and foreign health care professionals. 

The Samsung Medical Center currently uses six pieces of equipment for robot-assisted operations; with plans to add another one in the near future.
