South Korea's major power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. said on Friday it has won a 540 billion won ($383 million) contract to build a combined heat and power plant in Saudi Arabia.

Doosan, formerly Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co, signed the deal with Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), a developer of the project to build a power plant in Jafurah, 400 km east of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

KEPCO is in charge of business development and operation of the power plant, while Doosan will participate in the project as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, which handles the supply of equipment, installation and test operations.

With the completion of the construction work scheduled for the second half of 2025, the plant will produce 320 MW of electricity and 314 tons an hour of steam to supply electricity and heat to the Jafurah gas field.

The flagship unit of Doosan Group has been strengthening its business in the Middle Eastern country in recent years.

The company has won construction contracts worth over 2.3 trillion won from Saudi Arabia so far this year.

In February, it signed a 1 trillion won contract to build a steel casting plant.

Last month, the company clinched an 840 billion won contract to build a seawater desalination plant.

“A combined total of 30 GW-level power plants will be constructed in Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, over the next five years. We want to be part of the mega projects,” said Park In-Won, a Doosan plant EBC executive.
