South Korean medical AI company Lunit announced on Wednesday that it will participate in the "SEHA Virtual Hospital" project, a key initiative of Saudi Arabia's national strategic plan "Vision 2030."
Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 project is a national strategic initiative led by the crown prince and prime minister Mohammed bin Salman to diversify the country's oil-based industrial structure.
The SEHA Virtual Hospital project is a top priority in the healthcare sector, aiming to introduce virtual hospitals utilizing digital technologies such as medical artificial intelligence (AI) in Saudi Arabian healthcare institutions to provide high-quality medical services.
The government plans to invest a total of $66 billion and increase private sector participation from 40% to 65% to establish medical infrastructure, including virtual hospitals.
To participate in the "Vision 2030 SEHA Virtual Hospital" project, Lunit installed its chest X-ray AI image analysis solution Lunit Insight CXR, and its mammography AI image analysis solution Lunit Insight MMG, in the largest-scale public virtual hospital under the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health.
As a result, Lunit will verify the clinical safety and effectiveness of its AI solutions until November this year and evaluate the performance of the equipment. Once the performance evaluation is successful, Lunit's equipment is expected to be utilized in the national cancer screening and tuberculosis testing programs in 170 public virtual hospitals across Saudi Arabia.
